Second Half Rally Leads To Fourth Straight Win

Northwestern used a big second to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Midland, 78-71, and earn is fourth straight win. 

The Red Raiders improve to 11-9 in the GPAC, 16-9 overall, with two games remaining in the regular season. Midland drops to 7-13 in league play, 11-17 overall. 

Sammy Blum and Bre Schuiteman finished with 18 points each to pace a balanced Red Raider offense. Blum converted all seven free throw attempts and Schuiteman knocked down four three-pointers. Alexis Toering scored 16 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go with three assists. Devyn Kemble netted 10 points.

How It Happened...

Six lead changes highlighted a first quarter that resulted in a 14-12 lead for Midland

An 8-0 run, finished off by three-pointers from Amanda Hansen and Lexis Haase, gave Midland its first double-digit lead, 30-20, with five minutes left in the first half

Two free throws from Hansen put the Warriors in front by 13 (39-26), their largest of the game; Toering knocked down a late three-pointer to trim the lead to 10 by halftime, 39-29

Northwestern began its rally with a 10-4 at the start of the third quarter, cutting the lead to 43-39 after a three-pointer from Schuiteman.

Another 9-2 surge gave the Red Raiders their first lead since the first quarter, 48-45, at the 2:54 mark; four lead changes and three ties followed until Emilee Danner hit a three-pointer just ahead of the horn to put Northwestern on top, 55-52

Tied at 60, Northwestern went on a 12-3 over a four-minute stretch, holding Midland to one field goal, as the Red Raiders went ahead 72-63

By the Numbers...

Northwestern shot 45%, 32% (7/22) from the three-point line; the Red Raiders went a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line, all in the second half.

Midland shot 42% from the field, 29% (6/21) from the 3pt-line, 15-for-21 from the charity stripe.

The Red Raiders held a 42-31 edge on the glass, including 13 on the offensive side, five by Toering

Blum dished out six assists

Midland was led by Makenna Sullivan and Hansen with 16 points each
