Men's Basketball Hosts Midland

Game Time...Winners of their last four games, Northwestern looks to push its win streak to five as they host Midland in a GPAC match-up this weekend. Tip-off at the Bultman Center is scheduled for 4pm. The Red Raiders currently are tied with Dakota Wesleyan for second place in the GPAC with an 11-6 record, 19-8 overall. Midland is alone in ninth place but still in the hunt for a spot in the GPAC postseason with a 5-12 record, 9-15 overall.

All-Time...In one of its longest standing rivalries, Northwestern is 70-28 all-time against Midland, dating back to the 1960-61 season. The Red Raiders are 7-3 in their last 10 match-ups against Midland, 4-1 in the last five.

Last Time vs Midland...Jay Small scored a game-high 25 points and Grant Rohrer netted 20 in leading No.19 Northwestern to a 99-86 road victory against Midland on Dec. 14.

Small made 8-of-16 shots from the field, converted all six free throw attempts for his fourth 20+ point game this season. The junior guard pulled down seven boards and dished out four assists. Rohrer missed just three shots, going 9-for-12 from the floor, and hit both free throws for 20 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds in his 18+ minutes of floor time.

    Midland Warriors: 5-12 (9th), 9-15 overall        Head Coach: Oliver Drake (5th year)


The Warriors bring a two-game win streak into this weekend's match-up against NWC. Victories against Briar Cliff and Doane have put Midland just a 1/2 game in back of Hastings for the eighth and final spot in the GPAC postseason tournament with three games to play. Midland is 9-15 overall. 

Drake is in his fifth season as the head of the Midland men's basketball program after serving as head coach at Ashford for five seasons. Drake guided Midland to the NAIA D-II National Tournament in his second year (2015-16) and returns three starters, seven players from a 2018-19 team that finished ninth in the GPAC at 5-15, 10-19 overall. Midland was picked ninth in the GPAC preseason poll.

The Red Raiders have won four straight, five of their last six, to climb all the way into a tie for second place in the current GPAC standings, along with Dakota Wesleyan, with an 11-6 record, 19-8 overall. After the weekend, they close the season against DWU and Morningside. Northwestern has wins against Hastings, Dordt, Doane and Jamestown during its streak. 

Korver is in his 20th season as the Red Raiders head coach and has over 400 wins and 15 winning seasons during his tenure. He has led NWC teams to 13 national tournaments.
