Raiders, Bellevue To Play For Second Time This Season

Game Time...Northwestern College and Bellevue play for the second time this season this weekend in a non-conference match-up. Tip-off on Saturday, Dec. 19 is scheduled for 3pm. Northwestern received votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' poll and is 8-4 this season. Bellevue, from the North Star Athletic Association, is 6-8 so far this season.

All-Time...Northwestern has won four straight games against the Bruins, including a 76-60 victory in the final game of the Pizza Ranch Classic played earlier this season. The Raiders are 13-3 all-time against Bellevue. 

Last Time vs Bellevue...Alex Van Kalsbeek scored game-high 21 points in leading Northwestern to a 76-60 win over the Bruins. One of six Raiders to score in double figures, Van Kalsbeek made 9-of-16 field goal attempts and pulled down 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double. Trent Hilbrands contributed 15 points and Craig Sterk added a double-double as well with 13 points and 10 boards.

Northwestern led 38-29 at the break and outscored the Bruins 38-31 over the final 20 minutes. Keshawn Bruner led Bellevue with 15 points.

The Bruins have lost two straight games and three of their last four heading into Saturday's match-up against Northwestern. Last time out, they dropped a close 67-60 game to #21 Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday night in Indiana. Bellevue is 2-3 against teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference this season with wins against Briar Cliff and Doane and losses to Northwestern, Dordt and Briar Cliff. 

Gabriel took over the program for the final four games of the 2018-19 season and is in his second full season in charge of the Bruins. Last year, he was named the North Star Athletics Association Coach of the year after leading the Bruins to a first place finish with a 13-1 NSAA record, 24-8 overall.
