Northwestern College cruised to its fourth straight win, defeating Doane 101-62 in a conference match-up played today at the Bultman Center. The victory improves the Raiders to 4-3 in the GPAC, 4-6 overall; Doane slips to 1-7 in the GPAC, 3-8 overall.Â
Sammy Blum netted 20 points and was one of four Raiders to score in double figures.
Devyn Kemble (18 points) and
Taylor VanderVelde (16pts) both poured in season highs and
Emilee Danner contributed 15 points as Northwestern turned in its highest scoring game of the season.
Leading 20-12, Northwestern outscored Doane 10-0 over the final 2:37 of the first quarter to take a 30-12 lead. Two baskets, including a nifty reverse lay-up by
Jazy Prins, began the run while VanderVelde scored on a lay-up off an assist from
Maddie Jones ending the run.Â
Still up by 18, Danner and Blum combined to hit three consecutive three-pointers, igniting a 12-0 Northwestern run to extend the hosts lead to 55-28 by halftime.Â
Northwestern held a 30+ lead for nearly the entire second half, going up by 37 after a lay-up by Blum with 3:18 left in the third quarter. A three-pointer by Jones pushed the Northwestern lead to 42, its largest of the game, just before the final horn.Â

Chris Yaw played all 12 players that suited, 10 of which scored and 11 different Raiders grabbed at least one rebound. Northwestern shot 45% for the game, 35% from the three-point line (12/34). The Raiders dominated the boards, 58-36, pulling down 21 on the offensive glass. VanderVelde led the way with seven and Blum grabbed six.
Jada Cunningham dished out a season-high seven assists and VanderVelde added six.
Doane shot 30% for the game, 33% (4/120 from the three-point line. Sydney Roth led the Tigers with 24 points and eight boards.Â
