Women's Basketball Looks To Extend Win Streak

Raiders host Doane on Saturday

Game Time...Northwestern College looks to extend its win streak as they host Doane in GPAC match-up this weekend. Tip-off at the Bultman Center for Saturday, Dec. 12 is scheduled for 2pm. Winners of three straight games, Northwestern is tied for fifth in the current GPAC standings with an even 3-3 record in the GPAC, 3-6 overall. Doane brings a 1-6 conference mark into Saturday's contest, 3-7 overall.

The Rivalry
...has been in the Raiders favor of late as Northwestern has won five of the last six meetings. They are 6-4 in the last 10 and lead the all-time series 36-27, dating back to the 1986-87 season. Last year, Northwestern swept Doane by the scores of 82-55 and 85-44. 

Scouting Reports...

    Doane Tigers: 1-6 (11th), 3-7 overall            Head Coach: Ryan Baumgartner (2nd year)

The Tigers have lost six consecutive games, all in conference play, coming into Saturday's game against Northwestern. Last time out, they fell to Hastings 80-76 in a close game at home to fall to 1-6 in the GPAC, 3-7 overall. Doane's lone GPAC victory was a 74-65 win against Mount Marty on Nov. 11. They also hold two wins in non-conference play over Peru State and Barclay. 

Baumgartner is in his first full season as head coach, serving as both an assistant and interim coach last year. Baumgartner was an assistant with the men's program for two years prior and returns one starter, seven players from a 2019-20 team that went 1-21 in the GPAC, 2-25 overall.

Three straight wins have climbed the Raiders into a tie for fifth place in the current GPAC standings. Victories over Briar Cliff, Hastings and Dakota Wesleyan, two of which were on the road, put Northwestern at 3-3 in the GPAC and tied with both Dordt and Hastings in the standings. They are 3-6 overall.

The Raiders are incredibly balanced in all statistical areas with two players, Molly Schany and Sammy Blum, scoring in double figures. Seven additional players are scoring from 4-9 points per game. Schany has been in double figures in the most games (7), including four straight, while Blum has reached double figures in six.
