Women's Soccer At Morningside For Mid-Week Match

Raiders coming off a 1-0 win against Doane on Saturday

Game Time...The Northwestern College women's soccer team will look to build off last weekend's win as they make the trip to Sioux City for a Wednesday night match against Morningside. The game is set to start at 5:30pm. Northwestern is in ninth place in the GPAC with a 3-5 record, 3-5-1 overall, with three games left in the regular season. Morningside is fourth in the current GPAC standings with a 4-1-1 mark, 6-1-1 overall.

All-Time...Wednesday's game will be 23rd meeting between the two rivals with Northwestern trailing the all-time series 6-13-3 dating back to the 2001 season. The Raiders are 2-2-1 in their last five games against Morningside, winning last year 1-0 (OT) on a goal scored by Brenna Rauwerdink. 

Scouting Report...

    Morningside Mustangs: 4-1-1 (4th), 6-1-1                Head Coach: Tom Maxon (21st year)


Morningside has won four straight games since its 1-0 loss to Midland on Oct. 17, their only setback this season. They defeated Bellevue, Mount Marty, College of Saint Mary and Dakota Wesleyan over the last two weeks. Last time out, Morningside earned 1-0 win against DWU.

Maxon is nearing the 200-win milestone in now his 21st season as the Mustangs head coach. Hired in 2000, Maxon has 198 wins and has guided Morningside to the national tournament three times, most recently in 2015. Last year, he guided the Mustangs to a seventh place finish in the GPAC at 6-6, 8-11 overall.

The Raiders ended their two-game losing skid with a 1-0 win against Doane last weekend. Emily Hurley netted the game-winner with three minutes left in regulation and Kaelin Alons and the Raider earned her second shutout of the season. Northwestern is currently in ninth place in the GPAC with a 3-5 record, two games in back of College of Saint Mary for the eighth and final playoff spot in the GPAC tournament.
