Hurley Nets Game Winner Against Dakota Wesleyan

Raiders have won two straight matches

Emily Hurley netted a goal during the 97th minute to give Northwestern a 2-1 overtime win over Dakota Wesleyan in a conference match-up played tonight in Mitchell, S.D.

Northwestern improves to 2-3  in the GPAC, 2-3-1 overall; DWU loses for just the second time this season, falling to 3-2 in the conference, 5-2 overall.

Tied 1-1 with less than three minutes left in the first overtime, Hurley put a shot past DWU goalkeeper Alissa Betz for the golden goal. It was the second goal scored of the season for Hurley, who leads the Raiders with five points.

Both teams scored within the first six minutes of play; Dakota Wesleyan needed just under two minutes to score as Megan Herzog put a shot past Raider keeper Kaelin Alons for a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Julie Dunlap converted a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. Like Hurley, Dunlap now has two goals for the season.

Alons earned her second win in goal for the Raiders, stopping four DWU shots.

Northwestern had a decisive advantage with 11 shots on goal compared to five for DWU. Dunlap tallied a team-high three shots on net while Hurley, Audrey Leyen and Katie Jacob all had two shot on goal.

The Raiders will have 10 days off from competition before hosting Presentation for Senior Day on October 17.
