Men's Soccer Hosts Midland

Raiders are currently eighth in the GPAC standings

Game Time...The Northwestern College men's soccer team returns home for a mid-week match against Midland Wednesday night. The game will now be played on Korver Field, beginning at 6:30pm. Northwestern currently occupies the eighth and final playoff spot in the GPAC standings with a 2-3 league record, 4-3 overall; Midland is tied with Concordia for fourth place with a 4-1 mark.

All-Time... This will be the 21st match-up in the all-time series for a rivalry that began in 2002. Northwestern is 5-13-2 against Midland and has dropped its last seven games in the series. The Raiders last win against the Warriors was a 4-0 victory in 2010. 

Last year, Northwestern held a 1-0 lead with a goal scored during the 28th minute. Midland managed to tie the score with a late first half goal and netted the game-winner a mere 90 seconds into the final frame. Both teams had five shots on goal.

Midland has played just five matches this fall, owning a 4-1 record heading into Wednesday night. A 3-2 loss at Morningside is sandwiched by wins over Jamestown / Dordt and Doane / DWU. Last time out, they scored a season-high in goals with a 7-2 victory over DWU. 

Hired prior to the 2015 season, Martinez is in his sixth year as the head of the Midland men's soccer program. He is 67-28-7 during his time and has guided Warrior teams to a pair of NAIA National Tournaments, most recently in 2019. He returns three starters, nine players from last year's team that finished 13-5-2.

The Raiders went 1-1 last week, defeating Dordt (2-1) and losing to Hastings (5-0). They currently occupy the eighth and final spot for the GPAC postseason tournament that will be played in the spring.
