Friday Night Match Awaits Raider Volleyball

First serve at Morningside is set for 7:30pm

Game Time...Fresh off its four-set win against Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night, the Northwestern College volleyball returns to the court 48 hours later for a road GPAC match against Morningside. First serve in Sioux City, Iowa, is scheduled for 7:30pm. Northwestern is a perfect 3-0 on the year, 1-0 in the GPAC; Morningside is 2-3 in conference play, 3-5 overall.

All-Time... Northwestern is 24-11 all-time, 8-2 in the last 10 matches, against the Mustangs. Last season, the Raiders swept Morningside (25-13, 25-13, 25-19) in an October 26 match played in Orange City. 

Scouting Reports...

    Morningside Mustangs:
2-3 (8th), 3-5                Head Coach: Jessica Squier (1st year)

The Mustangs snapped its two-game losing skid with a 3-0 sweep over Briar Cliff last time out, Sept. 30, on the Chargers home court. Prior to that win, Morningside lost consecutive matches to Dakota Wesleyan (3-1) and Jamestown (3-1). They are currently in eighth place in the GPAC with a 2-3 record, 3-5 overall.

Squier is in her first season as the Mustangs head coach, taking over the program after an eight-year stint in the same role at Northeastern Community College. Squier played for Morningside one season, earning All-American honors as the team's setter. She inherits a Morningside team that returns four starters, seven players, from a 2019 team that finished tied with Doane for sixth place in the GPAC with an 8-8 record, 17-13 overall. They went 1-2 in pool play at the NAIA National Championship, losing to Park and Providence and defeating Oklahoma City.

The Raiders stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Dakota Wesleyan last time out (Sept.30). Anna Wedel put down 20 kills and both Taylor Meyer and Macay Van't Hul added a career-best 10 kills each in their team's win. Northwestern is 1-0 in conference action, 3-0 overall, and is 9-1 in sets played this season.
