Red Raiders Dominate Jamestown; Stay Unbeaten

No.8 Northwestern College picked up an impressive 45-6 win over the University of Jamestown for its annual Homecoming game played today on Korver Field, DeValois Stadium.

The Red Raiders head into their bye week unbeaten, improving to 3-0 in the GPAC, 4-0 overall.

Northwestern dominated in all three phases, accounting for nearly 500 yards of offense, averaging 7.9 yards per play and scoring 21 points in both the first and third quarters. Defensively, the Red Raiders held Jamestown to under 200 yards of offense, forced on turnover and registered a season-high three quarterback sacks. Special teams also excelled as Braxton Williams converted all six extra points, made 1-of-2 field goals, totaled five touchbacks and limited the Jimmies return game.

Jacob Kalogonis rushed for a season-high 179 yards and matched his career best with three rushing touchdowns, accomplished three other times. Tyson Kooima completed 15-of-24 passes for 260 yards and three scores to compliment the ground game. Cade Moser proved to be the preferred target today, catching six passes for a career-high 152 yards and two touchdowns, also a career high.

Northwestern reached the endzone on all three of its first quarter possessions to take a 21-0 lead. The Raider D also started strong, forcing Jamestown to punt on its first three possessions while not giving up a first down. Kalogonis capped a seven-play, 63-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown at the 11-minute mark. The senior scored again on a one-yard run to finish off a six-play, 55-yard drive to give his team a 14-0 lead. Kooima then connected with Michael Storey on an 18-yard touchdown pass and catch with three minutes left in the quarter.

A 34-yard field goal by Williams was the only scoring that took place in the second quarter, giving the hosts a 24-0 advantage by halftime. The Raider D gave up only four first downs in the opening half.

Northwestern eased its way down the field on its first possession of the second half, finishing off a five-play, 73-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown pass from Kooima to Moser. The Red Raiders utilized their big-play capabilities on their next two scoring drives when, after a Jamestown punt, Kalogonis scampered 70 yards into the endzone to put his team in front 38-0. Head Coach Matt McCarty's squad got the ball back later in the quarter and completed a two-play, 80-yard drive with a 70-yard strike from Kooima to Moser to put Northwestern up 45-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Jamestown scored its only touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a Jimmy Hatch seven-yard run.

With his three touchdown passes, Kooima passed Jay McKinstrey (1982-85) into sixth place with 56 career touchdown passes. The junior quarterback also moved ahead of Davis Bloemendaal (2010-13) and into third place all-time in career passing yards (6,953). Kooima has thrown for multiple touchdown passes in every game this season.

Shane Solberg totaled three catches for 34 yards, putting his streak at 20 consecutive games with at least two catches.

Tanner Machacek led the Raider D with nine tackles and tallied one of the three quarterback sacks. Tanner Oleson totaled six stops and both Sean Powell and Jacob Sprague had five stops. Powell and Colin Snyder registered one sack each and Dylan Snyders had an interception.

Jamestown quarterback Jordan Mann completed 14-of-27 passes for 87 yards and rushed 12 times for 21 yards.
