The Red Raiders (3-5, 0-1 GPAC) fell short in their GPAC opener Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Concordia University (Neb.) (7-0, 2-0 GPAC) in Seward, Neb.
The scoring started early for the Bulldogs getting their first tally in the 3
rd minute. Concordia earned a corner and Roger de la Villa got a powerful header on it that
James Warren saved but the rebound went right to Evan Hayden who put home the rebound.
The Raiders turned the ball over in their own defensive third in the 7
th minute and the Bulldogs would come through and Carlos Orquiz would chip the ball over Warren and Moises Jacobo would tap home the ball on the line.
NWC would cut the lead in half in the 17
th minute after
Anselmo Kim would beat a few defenders on the dribble and get fouled 25 yards away from goal.
Matthew Roll stepped up and hit a laser into the net for his first goal of the season.
The Raiders would play well the rest of the half and limit the Bulldog's chances while keeping the score 1-2.
The second half started off with the Raiders holding solid possession but they could not get in on goal as Concordia's defense in their final third was solid.
The Bulldogs would extend their lead in the 62
nd minute when they started a counter off a midfield turnover and Roger de la Villa would find the ball going at the Raider defense. NWC would poke the ball away but it would bounce around and find its way back to de la Villa who finished past Warren.
The Raiders will continue conference play next Saturday, September 28
th at 7:15pm when they host the Doane University Tigers for senior/parent night.
