The Raiders took down the Doane University Tigers Saturday night, 2-0. Northwestern would move to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC while the Tigers would move to 22-7, 1-1 in the GPAC.
NWC would break the ice in the 15th minute when the Raiders were pushing on the attack and
Mateus Freitas played a great ball to the back post where
Jake Foscalina, back from injury, headed home the finish. It was Foscalina's 4th of the year and Freitas' 2nd assist on the year. The assist puts Freitas with 14 career assists, tied for 3rd all-time with Harri Edwards.
Northwestern would double their tally in the 22nd minute off a free kick swung in by
Gijs Dingemans as his cross found
James Bolger's head for the flick on finish. It would be Bolger's 3rd goal of the year and Dingemans' 2nd assist.
The Raiders would walk into halftime with the 2-0 lead.
The second half was a bit of a different game as the Raiders were not as aggressive in the attack but their possession did not allow Doane to generate any solid chances on frame as
James Warren was tested with only 1 shot on goal. It would be Warren's 4th shutout of the season.
"We are really proud of the guys for executing the items we trained on this week," commented head coach
Dan Swier. "We held on to the ball well and did not waste possession and put together a solid first 45 minutes and that was what we needed to put together a win."
The Raiders travel to Presentation College (S.D.) Wednesday afternoon for another GPAC match. Kickoff is slated for 3:30pm.
