Red Raiders Sweep Mount Marty

No.2 Northwestern hit over .500 in earning a 3-0 sweep over Mount Marty in a GPAC match-up played this afternoon at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders improve to 3-0 in the conference, 13-0 overall; Mount Marty drops to 0-3 in the GPAC, 6-10 overall. 

The Red Raiders hit for a season-best .520, totaling 45 kills in 75 attempts against just six errors. They held a 6-1 advantage in total blocks and served seven aces. 

Anna Wedel was the lone player to post double figure kills, putting down 11 in 19 attempts. A.J. Kacmarynski totaled nine kills, Makenzie Fink seven and both Emily Van Ginkel and Bekah Horstman added five. 

Northwestern scored the first seven points of the match behind a pair of ace serve from Lacey Wacker and kills by Fink, Wedel and Van Ginkel. The Red Raiders built up a 13-2 lead and coasted to a 25-9 win. 

Wacker triggered an early 5-0 run in leading her team out to a 9-2 advantage in set two. Northwestern pushed the lead to 17-6 after three straight kills from Horstman, Meyer and Wacker. They won set two 25-10. 

The Red Raiders began the third and final set with an 8-2 run and led by as much as 10 (18-8) before winning 25-18.

Wacker directed the Red Raider offense, putting up 30 assists and serving four aces. Strasser led all backrow players with 13 digs; Wedel added eight.

Mount Marty hit 9% and was led by Gabby Ruth with nine kills.
