Red Raiders Head To Bellevue Classic

Game Time... Seventh-ranked Northwestern puts hits unbeaten record on the line as they head to Bellevue, Neb. to play in the GoSarpy.Com Classic this weekend. The Red Raiders, 4-0 on the season, open against No.3 Grand View on Thursday night at 7pm. They return to the court on Friday to play both York (11am) and Evangel (3pm).

All-Time...Northwestern has dropped four straight in the series against Grand View but is 7-4 all-time against the Vikings. The Red Raiders last defeated GVU in 2008, losing matches in 2011 (3-1), 2014 (3-1), 2016 (3-0) and 2018 (3-1). 

Northwestern is a perfect 3-0 all-time against York, sweeping the Panthers in 2017, 2015 and 2014.

The Red Raiders are 1-2 all-time against Evangel, defeating the Crusaders in 2013 while dropping matches in 2011 and 2015.

    #3 Grand View Vikings: 5-1        Head Coach: Tina Carter (12th year)

The highly-ranked Vikings are 5-1 so far this season, earning wins over three GPAC teams, Briar Cliff, Midland and Hastings, along with Bellevue and St.Ambrose. Grand View's lone loss was against 10th-ranked Eastern Oregon 3-0. 

Picked first in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) preseason coaches poll, Grand View won its third straight regular and postseason titles in 2018. They went a perfect 18-0 and spent several weeks at No.1 in the NAIA Coaches' poll. The Vikings finished the season with a 36-1 record, losing in the quarterfinal round. Carter owns a 72% (327-125) win percentage during her 12 seasons at GVU and returns five starters and 10 players from last year's team.

York enters the Classic with a 2-3 record, going 2-2 last weekend at a Classic played in Texas. They defeated Graceland and Randall while losing to Texas Wesleyan and Our Lady of the Lourdes. York also lost to Concordia, from the GPAC, in the first match of the year on August 21.

Nething, in her second year as the head of the York program, returns eight starters, including two all-conference players, from a 2018 team that went 3-9 in the KCAC, 9-26 overall. They were picked to finish 11th of 13 teams in the KCAC preseason poll.

The Crusaders suffered their first loss of the season last time out, falling to College of the Ozarks in five sets on August 27. Prior to that, Evangel had won six straight to open the season, including a 3-1 win over Doane from the GPAC. 

Whitehead, in her 19th season as the head of the Evangel volleyball program, owns a 63% win percentage and 418 victories during her tenure. She returns five starters and six players from a 2018 team that went 9-8 in the HAAC, 18-18 overall. They were picked sixth of 13 teams in the HAAC preseason poll.
