Baseball Set For GPAC Tournament

Game Time... Northwestern College begins play at the GPAC Baseball Postseason Tournament this week in Jamestown, N.D. The Red Raiders earned the No.6 seed and will open against No.3 seed Midland (Neb.) in the first game of the Jamestown Bracket at 3pm. 

The second game of the Jamestown bracket features the No.2 seed Jimmies going against No.7 Morningside.

    Tournament Format...The GPAC Baseball Tournament is comprised of two, four-team brackets, hosted by the regular season champion, Concordia, and second-seed, Jamestown. Both four-team brackets are double-elimination and will crown the winner on Saturday, May 4. The two bracket winners will then play for the GPAC postseason championship on Tuesday, May 7 in a winner-take-all, nine-inning game at the highest seed remaining.

At Stake...The winner of the postseason tournament will get the GPAC's second automatic bid into the NAIA Baseball National Championship opening round. Concordia, by way of winning the regular season title, earned the league's first auto bid.

Tournament Capsules...Northwestern holds a 4-5 record against the other three teams in the Jamestown bracket:  2-2 vs Midland, 1-1 vs Jamestown and 1-2 vs Morningside. 

    No.2 Jamestown Jimmies: 19-9 (2nd GPAC), 31-16            Head Coach: Tom Hager (20th year)

Jamestown finished second in the conference regular season with a 19-9 record, three games in front of Midland, Mount Marty and Dakota Wesleyan and four games in back of the GPAC champion, Concordia. The Jimmies posted a 6-4 record over the last 10 games, splitting with Doane in the regular season finale last weekend, 4-3 (W) and 1-0 (L). They are 31-16 overall.

The Warriors posted a 1-3 record during the final weekend of the regular season to finish in a three-way tie for third place in the GPAC at 16-12. They won the tie-break over Mount Marty and Dakota Wesleyan to earn the No.3 seed with a 23-23 overall mark. They are 6-4 over their last 10 games.

The Mustangs closed the regular season by winning four of their last five games to finish seventh in the GPAC regular season at 14-13, 26-17 overall. They were 1/2 game in back of sixth place Northwestern. They swept Midland and split with DWU during the final weekend.
