Northwestern lost a pair of games to Morningside this evening, 10-6 and 9-6. The Red Raiders move to 6-8 in the conference, 12-18 overall.
Game One...
Northwestern fell behind 9-1 after three innings and had its rally come up short in a 10-6 game one loss.
Evan Olesen (0-2) was given the loss, giving up 11 hits and nine runs in five innings.
Trent Thinesen pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits and one run.
Zach Rosson and
Britton Yoder accounted for three hits each, with Yoder scoring two runs and totaling two RBIs.
Colton Harold went 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Josh Fakkema added two hits to pace the Red Raiders 14-hit attack.
Trailing 9-1, Northwestern rallied a bit with two runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by Yoder. The Red Raiders added one more run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by
A.J. Nitzschke. Morningside came back a run in the top sixth and Northwestern closed out the scoring with two in the home half, plating runs off an RBI groundout by
Drew Schutt and RBI single by Harold.
Morningside totaled 13 hits, two each by Carter Kratz, Levi Davidson, Nic Metcalf and Brandon McClintock. Andrew Kasperbauer and Jordan Pierce both hit home runs and Aaron Homme earned the win, giving up 10 hits and four runs in 4.2 innings.
Game Two...
Morningside scored three runs in the top of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie en route to a 9-6 game two win and sweep over the Red Raiders.
Ben Zeutenhorst (1-3) took the loss, giving up five hits and three runs in 3.1 innings of relief. The sophomore recorded five strikeouts.
Ryan Reynolds,
Andrew Mescher and
Jonah Newman combined to pitch the other 5.2 innings.
Zylstra and Nitzschke led Coach Wede's squad at the plate with two hits each; Schutt went 1-for-4, hitting his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning.
Spencer Wyant earned the win, giving up one hit in 1.1 innings. Elliot Conover picked up the save, also giving up a run in 1.1 innings.
