Soetmelk To Play Football At Northwestern

Matthew Soetmelk (Missouri Valley, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College next fall.

Soetmelk is a 6'3", 175-pound wide receiver and safety that played four years for the Logan-Magnolia High School football team. Soetmelk led his team in both receiving (16 catches, 345 yards) and tackles (54.5) in earning all-district and all-conference honors as a senior. For his career, Soetmelk totaled 36 catches for 877 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense and 148 tackles with seven interceptions on defense. He is a two-time all-district and all-conference selection. A member of the honor roll, Soetmelk plans to study Business Administration at Northwestern. He is the son of Jeff and Laura.

"Matthew is a great addition to our football program," commented Northwestern Head Coach Matt McCarty. "He is a tremendous athlete who has the potential to be a playmaker for us. We look forward to working with Matthew over the course of his career."
