Softball Drops Two Against Morningside

Northwestern College bats went cold in a GPAC doubleheader loss to Morningside, 5-1 and 2-1, in games played today in Sioux City, Iowa. The Red Raiders slip to 3-5 in the conference, 10-17 overall; Morningside extends its win streak to 12 games, improving to 12-2 in the GPAC, 19-6 overall.

The Red Raiders mustered a total of four hits combined in the two games, two by Emily Bosch who scored a run in each game. The sophomore had the only extra-base hit, a one-out double in game two that led to her teams run. Jennifer Boeve had an RBI single in game two and Madison Beaver added a single as well.

Northwestern grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one when Bosch hit a two-out single, stole second and came around to score after a Morningside error and wild pitch.

The Mustangs got to Red Raider pitcher, Emma Schnell (L: 6-10), with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Morgan Nixon tallied an RBI single and Cortney Joiner hit the game-winner, a two-out single that plated Ashton Whited. Morningside tacked on three more runs in the seventh to make the final score 5-1.

Schnell pitched well in the loss, yielding 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out seven.

Hallie Misiaszek (11-2) limited Northwestern to just one hit and struck out nine in earning the Mustangs' win. Mackenzie Lose went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead Morningside at the plate.

Samantha Ubben and Misiaszek were locked in a pitcher's dual in the Mustangs' game two win. Ubben (L: 2-5) scattered six hits and allowed two runs in six innings of work; Misiaszek got the  best of the Red Raiders again, giving up only three hits and one run to improve to 12-2 on the season.

Morningside scored both runs in the first when Ellie Cropley led off with a walk, advanced to second on a double by Carson Cameron and scored on a sac fly by Stolen. Lose followed with an RBI on a squeeze play to make the score 2-0.
