Alayna Bakke (
Urbandale, Iowa.) has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball and softball careers at Northwestern College beginning next fall.
Bakke is a 5'6" setter who completed a standout, four-year career playing for Des Moines Christian. A four-year starter, Bakke set a school record with 822 assists, averaging 9.6 per set, in leading her team to a 25-8 record and regional final appearance last fall. She was named all-conference for the fourth straight year and earned all-district accolades for the second time. Bakke served 36 aces and closed her career as the school's all-time leader for assists in a match (56), season (822) and career (2,781).
"Alayna had a record-setting career while playing four years at Des Moines Christian," said Northwestern head coach
Kyle Van Den Bosch. "She is a quick athletic setter who we are very excited to add to our program. Alayna is a great leader and teammate, leading her team to the regional final last fall. We look forward to Alayna's contributions, both on and off the court, at Northwestern."
Bakke has played both outfield and catcher in her four seasons playing softball for Des Moines Christian heading into her final season this summer. Bakke hit .426 with seven doubles and 41 runs scored, leading her team to a third place finish at the state tournament with a 24-7 record as a junior. She hit five home runs and stole 14 of 16 bases, earning all-conference honors for the fourth straight year. A member of the National Honor Society, Bakke is the daughter of Ryan and Janna.
