Emma Schnell pitched a complete-game, seven-hitter and hit a three-run double, leading Northwestern to a 5-3 win over Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) in the final game played this afternoon at Batesville, Ark. The Red Raiders dropped their first game of the day, 7-3, to Lyon (Ark.), and are 1-3 on the season.
Schnell gave up seven hits, one earned run and struck out four in picking up her first win of the 2019 season. The sophomore did not walk a batter.
Offensively, the Red Raiders totaled three hits and took advantage of two Lindenwood errors to plate five runs. Schnell had the biggest hit for Coach Bouman's squad, recording a three-run double that scored
Amber Schubert,
Emily Bosch and
Vanessa Gomez in a four-run third inning. Gomez and
Jennifer Boeve each hit singles and the Red Raiders earned six walks as well.
Northwestern scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning when Schubert crossed home plate when
Devin Dreesen was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. The Red Raiders completed their scoring with four runs in the third for a 5-0 lead, which the score remained until the Lynx broke through with two runs in the sixth. Amanda Velasquez hit an RBI single and Zoie Villa drove in a run on a groundout. Lindenwood-Belleville added its final run on with an RBI single by Shelby Sievers.
Payton Curtis and Mountain paced the Lynx with two hits each and Makenzie Carter took the loss, giving up one hit and all five runs in 2.1 innings.
Northwestern lost its first game this morning, falling to (RV) Lyon 7-3 for its third consecutive loss against the Scots.
Samantha Ubben (0-2) took the loss, giving up nine hits and four earned runs in four innings.
Sydnee Isom pitched the final two innings, giving up three hits and two runs.
Five Red Raiders totaled one hit each;
Madison Beaver went 1-for-4 with a run scored and both Schubert and Bosch went 1-3 with a run.
Northwestern scored a run in each of the first two innings for a 2-0 lead but Lyon responded with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Katelyn Platt (4-0) improved to 4-0 in the circle, giving up five hits and thre runs in the full seven innings. Addison Harmon was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and both Megan Micke and Faith Cornmesser hit home runs.
