Darbi Gustafson scored a game-high 19 points and
Kassidy De Jong turned in her 10th double-double of the season in leading No.2 Northwestern to an 88-58 win over the University of Jamestown (N.D.) in a GPAC match-up played tonight at the Bultman Center.
Northwestern improves to 18-3 in conference play and remains tied with Concordia for first place in the GPAC standings with one game left in the regular season. They are now 24-3 overall.
Gustafson shot 6-of-11 from the field, 7-for-9 from the free throw line, scoring in double figures for the 22nd time this season. De Jong scored 13 points to go with 11 rebounds, tying Gustafson for the GPAC lead with 10 double-doubles.
Anna Kiel added 12 points, seven boards and matched her career-high with five assists.
A back-and-forth first quarter that featured three ties and five lead changes resulted in the Red Raiders trailing Jamestown 18-17. Northwestern tied the game at 20 and then proceeded to outscore the Jimmies 23-8 over the final eight minutes to push the lead to 15 by half, 43-28.
Sammy Blum and
Taylor VanderVelde both knocked down a three-pointer and Kiel scored six during the decisive run.
Jamestown guard Paige Schmidt hit a three-pointer at the start of third quarter to make it a 12-point game, the closest the Jimmies would get the rest of the way. Consecutive baskets by Gustafson began a 20-2 Northwestern run that eclipsed over seven minutes of time for a 63-33 advantage. The Red Raiders limited Jamestown to one field goal during that stretch.
Northwestern stretched its lead to 30+ at the five-minute mark of the final quarter.
The Red Raiders shot 53% for the game, 36% (5/14) from the three-point line.
Haley Birks, Bre Schuiteman, Blum and VanderVelde all scored nine points and the Red Raiders held a commanding 42-25 edge on the glass.
Jamestown shot 36% for the game and was led by Jory Mullen with nine points, followed by both Grace Benz and Marina Nowak with eight.
