Since defeating Hastings on the road on Nov. 27 (85-74), Midland has lost three straight, all to ranked teams (Bellevue, Dordt and Morningside). They are currently tied with Hastings for eighth in the GPAC with a 1-4 record, 3-7 overall. Midland's other two wins are against Kansas Wesleyan and Dakota State, both on the road.Â
Drake is in his fifth season as the head of the Midland men's basketball program after serving as head coach at Ashford for five seasons. Drake guided Midland to the NAIA D-II National Tournament in his second year (2015-16) and returns three starters, seven players from a 2018-19 team that finished ninth in the GPAC at 5-15, 10-19 overall. Midland was picked ninth in the GPAC preseason poll.

The Red Raiders have won five straight games since losing to Dordt on the road (86-68) on Nov. 20. Wins over Jamestown, Peru State, Dickinson State, Briar Cliff and Hastings have propelled Northwestern into the NAIA's top 25, climbing up to 19th in this week's rating. They are 4-1 in the GPAC, 10-2 overall, just 1/2 game in back of Mount Marty and Dakota Wesleyan.
Korver is in his 20th season as the Red Raiders head coach and has over 400 wins and 15 winning seasons during his tenure. He has led NWC teams to 13 national tournaments.
