Bre Schuiteman netted 19 points, one of five Red Raiders to score in double figures, to lead No.11 Northwestern to an 84-72 win over Haskell Indian Nations in the final game of the Pizza Ranch Classic played today at the Bultman Center.
The Red Raiders improve to 4-0 as they head into their GPAC opener against Mount Marty on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Haskell drops to 4-4 on the year.
Schuiteman drained five three-pointers en route to a season-high 19 points. The senior pulled down six rebounds and added two assists.
Sammy Blum scored 17 points to go with a team-high five assists and
Taylor VanderVelde added 11 points and nine rebounds, one board shy of her first career double-double.
Both
Alexis Toering and
Hannah Nerem scored 10 and combined for nine rebounds.
Northwestern raced out to a 28-14 lead by the end of the first quarter, taking the lead for good after three-pointers by
Devyn Kemble and Blum. The hosts outscored Haskell 25-15 in the second quarter for a commanding 53-29 advantage at the half.
The Lady Indians rallied in the second half, outscoring Northwestern in each of the final two quarters, behind the shooting of Sierra Penn, who scored a game-high 22 points.
The Red Raiders shot 44% for the game, 31% (10/32) from the three-point line. They held a 40-35 advantage on the boards, pulling down 11 on the offensive end.
Haskell shot 44%, 40% (10/25) from the arc, and committed 21 turnovers.
