Sammy Blum poured in a career-high 27 points in leading No.11 Northwestern to a 98-55 win over Presentation in the final game of the first day of the 2019 Pizza Ranch Women's Basketball Classic played today at the Bultman Center.Â
The Red Raiders improved to 3-0 and picked up their third win by 30+ points this season. Presentation drops to 1-4.Â
Blum converted 5-of-9 three-pointers en route to her 27-point effort and was one of five Red Raiders to score in double figures. The junior pulled down four rebounds and dished out five assists.
Alexis Toering scored 16 points, going 7-for-11 from the field, and
Emilee Danner netted 12 points coming off the Red Raider bench. Both
Devyn Kemble and
Bre Schuiteman netted 11 points each.Â
Northwestern used an 11-0 run to break a 7-7 tie early in the first quarter and never trailed thereafter. Consecutive baskets by
Erika Sage and
Alexis Toering put the Red Raiders in front 27-9 and finished off a 20-2 run just before the quarter ended.Â
Three-pointers by Kemble and Blum spearheaded an 11-0 Northwestern run at the start of the second quarter, pushing the lead to 40-11 with eight minutes left until halftime. Head Coach
Chris Yaw's squad held a 30-point lead, 53-23, at the break.Â
Northwestern outscored 25-13 in the third quarter, finished off with a three-pointer by Schuiteman, as the hosts increased their lead to 78-36.Â
Coach Yaw's squad shot 50% for the game, 46% (15/33) from the three-point line and forced Presentation into 26 turnovers.
Taylor VanderVelde led Northwestern on the boards with seven and dished out five assists.Â
Presentation was led by sophomore Jada Campbell with 17 points and 14 rebounds.Â
