Northwestern College opened its men's basketball season with a record-setting 144-44 home win over Oak Hills Christian Friday night at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders won their third straight season opener and improved to 5-0 all-time against the Wolfpack.
Eight Red Raiders scored in double figures, led by Trenton DeHaan with 20, going 9/11 from the field.
Grant DeMeulenaere nearly had his first career double-double with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists.Â

Kris Korver's squad set the record for points in a game, breaking the old mark of 134 set in 1993 against Mt. St. Claire, and most field goals made in a game (58), eclipsing the old mark of 53 set in 2015 against Oglala Lakota College.Â
Northwestern scored the first six points of the game and led 15-1 after a basket by
Trent Hilbrands with just four minutes gone. Leading 28-6, the Red Raiders scored the next 20 points, finished off with a three-pointer from
Austin Alexander at the seven-minute mark. They led 69-26 at the half, shooting 60% over the first 20 minutes.Â
A 25-2 run to start the second half extended the Northwestern lead to 94-28 and a three-pointer by DeMeulenaere pushed the Red Raiders to 101 points with 11:28 left to go.Â
The Red Raiders shot 67% for the game, 44% (17/39) from beyond the arc.
Carter Cuvelier netted 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting in his first career game as a Red Raider. Hilbrands, Alexander,
Dalton Moser and
Grant Rohrer all netted 12 points and
Noah Slagter added 11.
Northwestern held a 49-20 edge on the boards, led by DeMeulenaere (9) and
Keegan Van Egdom (7), who dished out a team-high five assists.
Will Richmond led Oak Hills Christian with 30 points, draining 7-of-13 three-pointers.Â
