Men's Basketball Heads To Doane

Game Time... Northwestern College goes for the season sweep against Doane as the teams meet up on Saturday, Jan. 26 in Crete, Neb. Tip-off for the GPAC match-up is set for 4pm. Northwestern is in fifth place in the current GPAC standings with an 8-6 record, 14-9 overall, and has won six of its last seven games. Doane is currently in 10th place in the GPAC with a 3-12 record, 6-17 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series 45-13, dating back to the first ever meeting during the 1965-66 season. The Red Raiders have won seven straight in the series and are 9-1 over the last 10 match-ups. 

Last Time...Four Red Raiders scored in double figures in their teams 80-70 home win over Doane in a match-up played earlier this month (Jan.2). Trent Hilbrands led the way with 19 points, 16 in the first half, and Parker Mulder added 17 points, six rebounds and dished out three assists. Jay Small (16pts) and Craig Sterk (11pts) were also in double figures as Northwestern shot 52% for the game, 60% in the final half. 

The Red Raiders scored the first seven points and led from start to finish against Doane. They held a 41-32 advantage at the half and played even with the Tigers over the final 20 minutes. 

Doane shot 51% for the game and was led by the duo of Nick Kornieck and Koh Flippin with 28 and 18 points, respectively.

Doane has dropped five straight and eight of its last nine games heading into the weekend, falling to 10th place in the GPAC with a 3-12 record, 6-17 overall. The Tigers lone victory during this time was a 61-59 home win over Dordt on Jan.5. They have lost to Midland, Hastings, Jamestown, Briar Cliff and Concordia since, falling to the Bulldogs on the road 70-53 on Wednesday night. 

McKeithen is in the midst of his third year as the Tigers' head coach, coming to Doane after a three-year stint as head coach at University of Benedictine Springfield. McKeithen returns four starters and eight players from a 2017-18 team that went 7-11 in the GPAC (7th), 14-18 overall, losing to Northwestern in the GPAC semifinals.

With its 89-80 win over Dordt on Wednesday night, the Red Raiders took sole possession of fifth place in the GPAC standings with an 8-6 record, 14-9 overall. They have won six of their last seven games, losing only to No.4 Morningside one week ago. They are chasing fourth place Dakota Wesleyan, just 1.5 games in back of the Tigers.
