De Groot To Run Cross Country, Track For Northwestern

Emma De Groot (Orange City, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue her running career at Northwestern College next fall.

12873De Groot has competed four years for the MOC-Floyd Valley High School cross country and track and field teams heading into her final season this spring. De Groot is a three-time state qualifier in cross country and has a personal best 5K of 20:19. She earned all-conference honors three years and was named team captain as both a junior and senior. De Groot has personal bests of 11:58 in the 3000m, 5:28 in the mile and 2:39 in the 800m. An honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society, De Groot plans to major in exercise science / pre-physical therapy. She is the daughter of Don and Michelle Vaas.

"We welcome Emma to our cross country and track and field teams," stated Northwestern Head Coach Scott Bahrke. "Emma is a great addition to our team. She works hard, encourages her teammates and has the drive to improve. It will be fun to watch Emma compete as a Red Raider over the next four years."
