The Red Raiders fell short Wednesday night as they dropped their GPAC match up against Briar Cliff University, 2-0.
The windy evening played a big role on the game for both teams and the Raiders played into a strong headwind in the first half. Briar Cliff kept a large part of the possession and kept the Raiders from possession for the majority of the half.
The Chargers would take the lead in the 18th minute when Taylor Hill hit a corner kick that caused issues for the Raiders in the box and the cross found the back of the net. The score would stay 1-0 going into halftime.
The second half was better for the Raiders but they could not find a quality possession in the attacking third to put the Chargers under. The Chargers would double their lead in the 65th minute of a penalty kick after a handling call in the box. Sonja Rao would bury the spot kick to the left of
Liz Foster.
The Raiders put up 5 shots and 4 of them were on target but none of them really tested Briar Cliff keeper Sarah Young. the Chargers had 22 shots with 12 of them on goal. Foster recorded 10 saves on the night for the Red Raiders.
"Unfortunately we did not have a ton of dangerous chances today," commented head coach
Ben Karnish. "We struggled to connect passes and could not find the final dangerous ball to create great chances. It is a tough loss but our ability to grow from this game is what matters now."
