The Red Raiders (1-6, 0-1 GPAC) dropped their GPAC opener Wednesday to a tough Jamestown (4-3, 1-0 GPAC) squad.
The Jimmies got off to a hot start putting two past goalkeeper
Destinee Montenegro in the first 7 minutes, Olivia Rivas hit a long, looping shot that was out of the reach of Montenegro in the 4th minute and Kirstyn Aldridge capitalized on the NWC miscommunication in the back and tapped home an easy goal.
The Jimmes would add to their tally in the 30th minute with another high shot that found its way over Montenegro.
The second half was visibly better for the Raiders but the damage had been done. Both teams would score in the second half.Â
Jamestown found the back of the net in the 70th minute with Nicole Morrison sliding in on a good ball to the back post for a one foot tap in to make the score 4-0.
The Raiders would eventually find the back of the net in the 87th minute on a good through ball from Cherish Henry to
Nikky Farnsworth and she would hold off a defender and hit a low shot around the keeper for her first goal of the year.
"Unfortunately we did not come out ready to go today," commented head coach
Ben Karnish. "A good team like Jamestown has the ability to jump on teams early and the succeed at what they wanted to do. It put us behind early and you could see the affect it had on our squad. It was good to see us play better in the second half but we know that 45 minutes is not going to win you games in the GPAC."
The Red Raiders will get back at it on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they host Concordia University (Neb.) at 7:15pm.
