Lauryn Hilger put away a team-high 22 kills in leading No.9 Northwestern College to a pair of wins on the first day of Red Raider Classic played today at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders opened with an impressive sweep over John Brown (Ark.) 25-10, 25-16, 25-19 and then eased to a 3-1 win over Waldorf (25-14, 25-11, 25-27, 2517). They stay unbeaten on the year, improving to 3-0.
Hilger smashed 22 kills in 43 attempts against just one error while hitting nearly .500 for the day.
Anna Kiel (18) and
Makenzie Fink (16) both put down double figures as well and
Lacey Wacker put up 65 assists combined in the two matches.
vs John Brown...
Northwestern hit .456 and limited the Eagles offense to .071 in the three-set match. Hilger pushed down a match-high 14 kills and both
A.J. Horstman and
Emily Van Ginkel added five kills each.
vs Waldorf...
Kiel led all players with 15 kills, hitting .565, in leading Northwestern to a four-set win over the Warriors. Fink added 12 along the left-side pin while Wacker (39) and
Hannah Dykshorn (12) put up double-digit assists and directed a Red Raider offense that hit .347 for the match.
Emily Strasser accounted for 18 digs while the Red Raiders served 10 aces, led by Fink with three.
Northwestern will square off against No.9 Grand View at 11am on Saturday morning followed by a 3pm match against Presentation.
