Raiders Drop Season Opener 4-1

The Red Raiders dropped their season opener Monday afternoon 4-1 to Viterbo University (Wis.). The V-Hawks earned their first win of the year on the rainy day.

The game was statically in favor of Viterbo seeing them have 14 shots on goal with 29 shots total. The Raiders amassed only 4 total shots and their one shot on goal produced their first goal of the season.

Northwestern went into half-time down 2-0 after two long range shots beat goalkeeper Destinee Montenegro. The Raiders rallied though scoring one minute into the second half after the Raiders took the kickoff and dribbled and combined to earn a foul at the top of the box. Sarah Homan stepped up to strike the ball and buried it around the wall into the bottom left corner for her first goal of the season.

The Raiders battled hard for the remainder of the second half but the 3rd goal for the V-Hawks came from some miscommunication between defender and goalkeeper and in turn, sprung Macy Kalscheur in for an easy finish on Macy Kuehler. Sydney King would bash home another long range effort a minute later to stretch the game to 4-1.

Northwestern visit second ranked Benedictine College on Saturday, August 25 at 5pm in Atchison, Kan.
