Tennis Closes Regular Season With Weekend Home Matches

Game Time...The Northwestern College women's tennis team plays host to both Doane and Hastings this weekend in the final matches of the regular season. The Red Raiders match against Doane will begin at noon, followed by the match against the Broncos at 4pm. Northwestern is currently in sixth place in the GPAC with a 2-3 record, 5-12 overall. Doane sits in fourth place in the GPAC at 3-3, 7-11 overall while Hastings leads the current GPAC standings with an unbeaten 5-0 record, 8-5 overall. 

All-Time...Northwestern holds a 14-6 lead in the all-time series against Doane but is just 2-3 over the last five match-ups. They lost 6-3 last season against the Tigers.

    The Red Raiders are 5-13 all-time against Hastings, losing 8-1 last season. They are 3-2 over the last five matches against Hastings.

The Tigers have won three of their last four matches, 2-0 in conference play, to climb back to .500 with a 3-3 league record, 7-11 overall. Since a 1-3 start to the GPAC season, they have defeated both Mount Marty and Morningside, coupled with a non-conference win against Nebraska Wesleyan last time out, 5-2. Their only loss over the last two weeks was a 7-0 setback to NCAA D-I Creighton.

Harris returns three players from a 2017 team that finished second in the GPAC regular season with a 6-1 record, 7-11 overall. They lost to Morningside in the GPAC semifinals.

The Broncos are a perfect 5-0 heading into the final weekend of the regular season, 8-5 overall. They have won five straight and six of their last seven matches, with their last loss coming at 9th-ranked LSU-Alexandria on March 21.

Brown, an assistant coach last year, inherits a team that won the GPAC regular season and postseason titles in 2017. They return three all-conference players from last year, including the GPAC Player of the Year, Kelsey Brown.

The Red Raiders are in sixth place in the GPAC standings with a 2-3 record, 5-12 overall, heading into the final weekend of regular season play. They are trying to hold off Morningside for the sixth and final spot in the six-team postseason tournament that gets underway next week.
