Giovanni Maffei (
Sylmar, Calif.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College next fall.
Maffei is a 5'9", 170-pound quarterback who had a standout, three-year career playing for John F. Kennedy High School. Maffei threw for 3,136 yards and 33 touchdowns in leading his team to the state quarter finals his senior year. He also rushed for 412 yards and three scores, earning first team all-league honors for the second straight year. Maffei received first team all-city honors and was named the team's most valuable player as a senior. A member of the honor roll, Maffei plans to major in exercise science at Northwestern. He is the son of Frank and Elsa.
"Gio had an outstanding high school career at quarterback," commented Northwestern head coach
Matt McCarty. "He is a good athlete and is a dual-threat with the ability to throw and make plays on the run. Gio is extremely competitive and that will serve him well in college."
