Four Red Raiders scored in double figures in leading No.9 Northwestern to a 90-61 hom win over Mount Marty in a conference match-up played tonight at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders improve to 14-3 in the GPAC and remain tied with Dakota Wesleyan for second place in the standings with three games left to play in the regular season. They move to 19-6 overall.Â
Kassidy De Jong scored a game-high 18 points to go with a 12-rebound effort for her sixth double-double of the season.
Darbi Gustafson netted 14 and both
Renee Maneman and
Haley Birks scored 11 while three additional Red Raiders talled at least seven points.
After Mount Marty recorded the game's first basket, Northwestern scored the next 10 points in the midst of a 15-2 run to take the lead for good, 15-4, on a three-pointer by Maneman with 3:48 left to go in the opening frame. A three-pointer by Lancers' guard Ali Kuca followed by free throws by Sarah Castaneda cut the hosts lead down to eight (17-9) moments later. De Jong then drained another three-pointer and scored on a jumper from the wing as time expired to put NW up 22-12 by quarters end.Â
Both teams shot 60% or better and played even in a second quarter that resulted in a 43-34 Northwestern advantage.Â
Northwestern put the game away in a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Lancers 26-15, shooting 64% compared to 39% by MMC. The Red Raiders continued its momentum in the final period, opening up a 23-point lead after a three-pointer by
Katie Vander Molen with 6:51 left to play. Three-pointers by
Sammy Blum,
Marina Keck and
Rachel Mercer during the final two minutes pushed the Northwestern lead up to 29 by games end.
Coach Yaw's squad shot 49% for the game, a season-best 57% from beyond the arc, and made a season-high 12 three-pointers. Northwestern dominated the boards, 39-24, giving up a mere two offensive rebounds to the Lancers. Maneman dished out nine assists and Vander Molen totaled season highs in rebounds (4) and assists (5).Â
Kuca led the Lancers with 14 points and Karissa Chamley scored nine.
