Red Raiders Host Mount Marty

Game Time...10th-ranked Northwestern College plays host to Mount Marty in GPAC play Wednesday night at the Bultman Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm. Northwestern has won three straight and sits just a half game in back of both Briar Cliff and Morningside in the GPAC standings with a 10-4 record, 20-4 overall. Mount Marty sports a 2-13 record and is in 10th place in the current GPAC standings, 5-20 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern holds a 54-16 lead in the all-time series and is 9-1 over the last 10 games against the Lancers. 

Last Time vs Mount Marty...Four Red Raiders scored in double figures in leading Northwestern to an 87-73 road win over the Lancers in a match-up played Jan. 3 in Yankton, S.D. Nathan Wedel poured in a game-high 27 points, missing just four of his 15 field goal attempts, and both Riley Francis and Derek Buysse scored 18. Parker Mulder contributed 10 points, eight boards and five assists. 

Northwestern led 51-39 at intermission, shooting 61% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc in the opening half. The Red Raiders led by double digits for most of the final 20 minutes despite cooling off to 42% from the field.

Conlan Callahan led the Lancers with 23 points, followed closely by Marcus Mathieu with 19 and Drew Cheskie with 17.

    Mount Marty Lancers: 2-13 (10th), 5-20   Head Coach: Cody Schilling (1st)


The Lancers are currently in 10th place in the GPAC with a 2-13 record, 5-20 overall, with four games left in the regular season. They have dropped two straight since a 75-65 home win against Doane, losing to Dakota Wesleyan and Midland on the road. Mount Marty's other win in GPAC play was a 65-63 win against Concordia on Jan.13.

Cody Schilling is in his first season as the Lancers' head coach after a standout playing career at Augustana (S.D.) and a stint as a coach at the basketball clinic, Warwick Workouts. Schilling inherits a Lancers team that finished with an 0-18 league record, 4-24 overall. Three starters and six players return from the 2016-17 squad.

The Red Raiders are currently in third place in the GPAC standings, one half game back of both Morningside and Briar Cliff, with four games to go in the GPAC standings. They are 6-2 in the month of January and have won two straight (Morningside/Dordt) since dropping two in a row against Hastings and Briar Cliff.
