Tyler Jones (
Manson, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College next fall.
Jones is a 6'3", 280-pound offensive/defensive lineman who starred four years for the South Central Calhoun High School football team. Jones earned first team all-district honors on both sides of the ball after leading his team to the state quarterfinals, finishing with a 9-2 record. He totaled a team-best 75.5 tackles, 13 for a loss, and three sacks on defense last fall and helped pave the way for an offense that averaged nearly seven yards per play and scored 55 touchdowns. Jones was named the team's most valuable lineman (offense and defense) two years and was an honorable mention all-district selection as a freshman. Named to the academic all-state team, Jones plans to major in biology at Northwestern and is the son of Steve and Kari.
"Tyler will add an immediate physical presence to our defense," commented Northwestern head coach
Matt McCarty. "He was a great playmaker up front for an outstanding high school program and knows what it takes to be successful. Tyler already has good size and we look forward to him being an anchor on our defensive line."
