Balanced Scoring Key Red Raider Win On Senior Day

Six Red Raiders scored in double figures in leading No.9 Northwestern College to a 92-72 home win against Midland on Senior Day this afternoon at the Bultman Center. Northwestern improved to 15-3 in the GPAC, 20-6 overall, earning its 20th win for the second straight year and 16th time in program history.

Renee Maneman scored 17 points and matched her career-high with 14 assists for her sixth double-double of the season. Both Darbi Gustafson (15pts, 10 rebounds) and Anna Kiel (10pts and 10 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles and Kassidy De Jong (13), Haley Birks (12) and Paige Danner (10) were the other top scorers for NWC.

Northwestern led from start to finish, opening up a 17-7 lead after the first five minutes of play, after back-to-back three-pointers by Maneman and Katie Vander Molen. A three-pointer by Midland guard Maddie Meadows put the visitors within three until Gustafson scored the final basket of the quarter to put the Red Raiders on top, 25-20.

Still a three-point game with five minutes to go in the second quarter, Northwestern began a 12-0 run to push the lead up to 15 (44-29) at the two minute mark. Kiel scored six points during the surge and the Raider Defense held Midland scoreless for over three minutes. A Danner three-pointer moments later put the Red Raiders up 16 and the hosts took a 16-point lead into the halftime locker room, 49-33.

The teams played even in the third quarter and the Red Raiders gradually build their advantage to 20 points in the fourth.

Northwestern shot 48% for the game, 31% (11/35) from the three-point line, and 15/19 (79%) from the free throw line. The Red Raiders held a big edge, 44-31, on the glass and committed just nine turnovers on the day.

Joelle Overkamp scored a game-high 23 points and both Megan Kucks (14) and Amanda Hansen (11) were also in double figures for the Warriors, who shot 39% for the game and 40% from the three-point arc.
