Men's Basketball Preps For Saturday Showdown Against Morningside

Game Time… Northwestern will head to Sioux City, Iowa, this Saturday to take on the 4th ranked Morningside Mustangs in a conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm at the Allee Gymnasium. Northwestern is 4-2 on the year, 1-1 in GPAC play, while Morningside is unbeaten, 2-0 in the GPAC, 3-0 overall.

All time… Northwestern is 4-6 against Morningside in their last 10 games. The last meeting between these two teams was the GPAC tournament championship last year in which the Mustangs defeated the Raiders 80-76. Northwestern is 23-18 all-time against Morningside.

The defending GPAC Champion Mustangs have started the season 3-0, 2-0 in the conference action. Picked to repeat as the champions of the GPAC, Morningside has not disappointed so far, winning their first two conference match-ups against #10 Briar Cliff and Dordt. The Mustangs are ranked 4th in the NAIA D-II preseason poll.

Coach Sykes' squad is currently ranked seventh in the NAIA in Scoring Defense per game, holding their opponents to 64 points a game. The well-balanced Morningside offense has six players averaging over 10 points a game.

Northwestern stopped a two game skid last time out in Yankton, S.D., defeating Mount Marty 102-63. Trent Hilbrands led the Red Raiders with 22 points and Jay Small added 18. The Raiders are now 1-1 in the GPAC and 4-2 overall.
