Hot Shooting Leads To Big Win Against Lancers

Trent Hilbrands scored a game-high 22 points and the Red Raiders shot a season-best from the field in their 102-63 road win over Mount Marty played tonight in Yankton, S.D. The Red Raiders snap their two-game losing streak and improve to 1-1 in conference play, 4-2 overall. 

Northwestern began the game with an 18-4 run and never trailed in the road match-up. Leading by 13, the Red Raiders scored the final 15 points of the first half, holding the Lancers scoreless for over four minutes. to extend their lead 53-28 at the break. Hilbrands scored six, Grant Rohrer added four and Noah Slagter drained a three-pointer during the surge. 

Coach Korver's squad continued to roll in the second half, pushing the lead to 30 in the opening minutes and to 40 by the 11-minute mark. 

The Red Raiders shot a season-best 66% from the field, 60% (15/25) from the three-point line, and a perfect 13/13 from the free throw line. Hilbrands poured in 22 points, his fifth 20+-point game this season. Jay Small chipped in a career-best 18 points, draining 4-of-6 three-pointers, and Grant Rohrer added 16 points, missing just one field goal in eight attempts. Grant DeMeulenaere also netted a career-high, 10 points, and dished out three assists. 

Northwestern held the edge on the boards, 39-27, led by Isaac Heyer with seven. Parker Mulder totaled seven assists and Steven Kragt totaled five assists to go with nine points and three boards.

Mount Marty shot 37% from the field, led by Reily Devine with 10 points and four rebounds.

Korver and his team will head to play fourth-ranked Morningside on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7pm.
