Raiders Fall Short to #20 Midland

The Red Raiders fell short of an upset Saturday night. The Midland University Warriors, ranked 20th in the nation, took advantage of an first half penalty kick and found the net in the second half to win 2-0.

The Raiders are now 2-4 in the GPAC and 3-9 overall. Midland moves to 5-0-1 in the GPAC and 8-1-1 overall.

The Warriors got on the board in tth 31st minute after a cross caused a Red Raider handball resulting in a Midland penalty kick. PT Perez stepped up and hit a hard, high shot to the left of Liz Foster and Foster got a hand on the shot but could not keep it out of the back of the net.

The Raiders generated some good attacking plays in the first half but could not get quality chances outside the two corner kicks they earned.

The second half was much of the same game for both teams. The Red Raiders wanted to posses the ball and Midland wanted to find Nayeli Rodriguez in the attack. Both teams were able to accomplish this throughout and the Warriors finally got Rodriguez involved in a dangerous spot on the field in the 57th minute.

Rodriquez was able to break free after picking up a lose ball in her attacking third and took on two Raider defenders to her left and was able to hit a strong, near post shot past Foster.

"We knew that if PT and Nayeli got on the board today it would be an uphill struggle," commented head coach Ben Karnish. "We played very well and stuck to our game plan and unfortunately, two very good players did what they did best today. It is one of those games that you cannot be frustrated with how we played but more so admire the way your opponents, and specifically those players, played."

The Red Raiders head into their last 6 games of the season Wednesday at home against Presentation College.
