The Red Raiders could not find their way into the postseason Saturday night after a 3-0 loss to 13th ranked Hastings College.
Northwestern (5-13, 4-8 GPAC) held the Broncos (13-0-3, 10-0-2 GPAC) scoreless in the first half even though NWC allowed 10 shots.
Liz Foster made 7 saves in the first half to keep things even.
The second half started with a much different tone as Hastings came out flying and put the Raiders under.
Berkley Sharp scored in the 54th minute after Castle de Ortega found her the ball in the box after a few moves in the box.
The Broncos would double their tally in the 57th minute with Castle de Ortega getting her goal on the night.
Hastings would seal the deal in the 75th minute with Janine Lahey found herself at the penalty spot and was able to slot a shot home past Foster.
In a match that the Raiders needed to win, they could not muster enough quality chances to give themselves a chance. A win would have put them as the 7th seed in the GPAC tournament but instead, are on the outside looking in.
This is the first time in coach Karnish's career that his squad has not reached the postseason.
"It was a tough game to end on," commented coach Karnish. "You can always look back and wonder what if but that sadly does not make anyone feel better. We faced some tough hurdles this year and I am proud of how the gals responded. Not every year goes the way you want and sadly, all but one team ends the season without a championship."
