The Red Raiders trounced Dordt College Wednesday afternoon 6-0. Northwestern clinched at least a top 6 finish in the conference and could be top 5 after other GPAC games finish up Wednesday night. The Raiders could finish as high as 3rd.
Ben Hengst opened up the scoring early in the 2nd minute off a corner kick that fell in the box and was tapped to him from
Jacobo Garcia-Nieto for the easy finish.
The Raiders would double up quickly after in the 4th minute when
Mateus Freitas sprung
Tyler Limmer on a through ball and Limmer would get the first touch beofre the keeper could grab the ball and though Seth Lewison made the original save, the rebound bounced off Limmer and into the back of the net. The score would remain 2-0 going into halftime.
Northwestern got off to another quick second half start as the Raiders found the net in the 51st minute when
Anselmo Kim won a 50/50 ball in the midfield and was able to slot Limmer through on the ground for an easy finish past Lewison.
Kim would add another assist on the night in the 55th minute when Anslemo broke down the Dordt high line and was able to get in and slot a ball back to
Felipe Gontijo for a calm finish from 10 yards out.
Gontijo would get his assist on the night in the 63rd minute when he sprung
Liam Stoddard through and Stoddard would do the rest after a great first touch around Lewison for an easy tap in.
Ryan Wager would cap off the night in the 90th minute for his first career goal after Alex Medeiros found him in the box for another easy finish.
"This rivalry match has typically yielded very close results over the years," commented head coach
Dan Swier. "I am proud of how our guys responded after the disappointing loss to Morningside last weekend. The two goals inside the first five minutes of the match really set the tone. You can never underestimate how important it is to capitalize on early scoring chances."
The Raiders will finish their regular season off at Hastings College Saturday night at 8pm
