Raiders Run Past Tigers

The Red Raiders downed Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night as they scored two half goals to earn a 2-1 win on the night.

The Red Raiders (9-4-2, 5-1-2 GPAC) came out of the gate hot offensively getting scoring chances and putting pressure on the DWU defense. The Tigers (4-9-1, 1-6-1 GPAC) weathered the storm defensively and got more opportunities offensively minutes before halftime, but both teams could not find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play.

The second half started off much life the first half for the Raiders but they broke through in the 53rd minute where Tyler Limmer got in down the left side of the field and he then dropped the ball off to Anselmo Kim running into the box for a 1-touch finish.Kim now has 11 goals on the year.

The Tigers would respond in the 55th minute when Cesar Tabares got in down the right side of the field and played a long cross to the backside of the goal where Gage Pemberton was able to finish past Matt Scott.

The Raiders would regain the lead in the 73rd minute when they would earn a corner which would be over hit to the back post where Tyler Limmer collected the ball and attempted to shoot but the weak shot would be redirected by Ben Hengst. It would be Hengst's first goal of the year and Limmer's 12th assist.

"Dakota Wesleyan played well tonight," commented head coach Dan Swier. They defended with incredible effort and we had to earn the victory.  Our guys did a nice job of keeping the ball and creating enough goal-scoring chances to come out on top."

The Raiders wrap up their regular season home schedule Saturday when they host Morningside College at 7:15pm at the NWC Soccer Complex.
