Red Raiders Pull Away From Dordt; Earn 10th Straight Win

10th-ranked Northwestern outscored the Defenders by double digits in each of the final three quarters to pick up a 101-61 road win over Dordt tonight in Sioux Center.

The Red Raiders earn their season-high 10th straight win and improve to 13-2 in the conference, 18-5 overall. 

Anna Kiel was among five Red Raiders who scored in double figures, putting in a game-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds, one board shy of her second double-double of the season. Renee Maneman netted 16 points and played an outstanding floor game, dishing out nine assists against one turnover. Both Darbi Gustafson and Sammy Blum scored 12 and Kassidy De Jong added 11. 

Northwestern shot better than 65% over the final three quarters, 58% for the game, and held a commanding 40-29 advantage on the boards. They also shot a season-best 53% (9/17) from beyond the arc. 

The lead switched hands six times in a back-and-forth first quarter that ended with the Red Raiders scoring the final five points, resulting in a 20-17 lead. A three-pointer by Blum put Northwestern in front for good  (18-17) with 3:26 left in the opening quarter and the Red Raiders held Dordt scoreless for nearly four minutes. 

Baskets by Gustafson and De Jong along with a three-pointer by Paige Danner completed a 13-0 Northwestern run and put the visitors up 27-17 in the beginning moments of the second quarter. The Red Raiders extended their lead to as many as 15 (46-31) on a three-pointer by Haley Birks before a jumper by Defenders' guard Erika Feenstra made the score 46-33 at the half. 

After Dordt cut the lead down to 12 on a three-point play by Rachel Evavold, Northwestern outscored the hosts 21-8 over the final 6:40 of the third quarter to take a 74-49 advantage heading into the final period. The Red Raiders tightened up their defense, limiting Dordt to one field goal during the final five-plus minutes, but also shot 71% from the field (12/17) in the 10-minute quarter.

Northwestern pushed the lead to 31 midway through the final period and held Dordt to a pair of field goals over the final 10 minutes. The Red Raiders finished with a 16-3 run and scored 100+ points for the first time this season.

Siennah Stamness led the Defenders with 16 points and Baylee Tetzlaff scored 12. Dordt shot 32% for the game and committed 19 turnovers compared to nine by the Red Raiders.
