Kassidy De Jong scored 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds in leading No.10 Northwestern to an 83-60 victory over 13th-ranked Morningside in a GPAC showdown played tonight at the Bultman Center.
The Red Raiders pushed their season-best win streak to eight games and improve to 11-2 in conference play, 16-5 overall. They earn a split in the season series against Morningside, who had its four-game win streak snapped and drops to 10-4 in the GPAC, 17-7 overall.
Leading by five early, Northwestern scored 19 straight points to open up a 33-6 first quarter lead. De Jong began the scoring run with a three-pointer and
Sammy Blum knocked down back-to-back three's to finish off the surge. The Red Raider shot 80% in the quarter and held the Mustangs scoreless for over four minutes, limiting the visitors to 20% from the field in the first 10 minutes.
Northwestern led 45-21 at the half and played virtually even with the Mustangs over the final two quarters, earning its first win at home against the Mustangs since the 2013-14 season.
The Red Raiders shot 57% for the game, 44% (8/18) from the three-point line, and had three players score in double figures. De Jong shot 8-for-15 from the field, registering her ninth 20-point game of the season. Both

Renee Maneman dished out a career-best 14 assists, her ninth game with 10+ assists this season.
Northwestern held a commanding 41-26 edge on the boards, the 10th straight game the Red Raiders outrebounded their opponent. Both De Jong and Maneman pulled down eight boards and Kiel grabbed seven.
Madison Braun provided most of the offense for the Mustangs, scoring a game-high 38 points, making 8-of-17 three-pointers. Morningside shot 33% for the game and committed 17 turnovers.
