Red Raiders Begin Calendar Year With Road Test At Mount Marty

Game Time...18th-ranked Northwestern begins the 2018 year with a road match-up against GPAC-rival Mount Marty on Wednesday night in Yankton, S.D. Tip-off at the Cimpl Arena is slated for 6pm. The Red Raiders have won two straight games, both in non-conference play, and are tied with two teams for third place in the current GPAC standings with a 5-2 record, 10-5 overall. Mount Marty has also won two straight games and three of its last four to move to 1-7 in the GPAC, 9-7 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern has won two straight and eight of its last 10 games against the Lancers, owning a 54-22 overall edge in the all-time series. Last year, the Red Raiders won both match-ups against Mount Marty, 90-68 on the road and 64-55 at home.

The Lancers have played some of their best basketball of late, winning three of their last four games, including two straight over Presentation and Waldorf. They are tied with Doane for 10th place in the current GPAC standings with a 1-7 record but are a perfect 8-0 in non-conference play. Mount Marty's lone GPAC win is a 69-59 home win over College of Saint Mary on Dec. 2.

Schlimgen is in his 10th season as the Lancer's head coach and returns one starter and seven players from a 2016-17 team that just missed out on postseason play, finishing tied for eighth in the GPAC with a 7-13 record, 13-17 overall.

Northwestern has won two straight and five of its last six games to move into a three-way tie for third place in the current GPAC standings with a 5-2 league record, 10-5 overall. They are tied with both Dakota Wesleyan and Hastings, one game in back of second place Morningside. Most recently, the Red Raiders earned wins over a pair of NAIA D-I teams from California, Hope International and San Diego Christian.
