The Red Raiders were able to put on a total team effort in a 5-0 win on the road at
Doane University. Northwestern goalkeeper Naomi
Schimmel broke the program record for shutouts in a career with 18 after tonight's shutout win. She only had to make one save in the match but it was a big save on a close range shot with little time left in the game. The previous record holder was Ariel Watts who had 17 shutouts from 2010-2013.
The goal scoring came early and often for the Raiders as
Nikky Farnsworth
benefitted from a great NWC build up and a great ball by Madison
Bertman for an easy finish. The goal came 59 seconds into the game. The Raiders kept buzzing at the goal hitting the post 2 more times in the next 3 minutes but were not able to capitalize until the
10th minute when
Nikky Farnsworth returned the favor to Madison
Bertman in almost the exact same way the first goal happened. The Raiders had a great buildup and Farnsworth was able to play the ball
across the frame for an easy tap in for
Bertman.
The third goal for the Raiders came in the
32nd minute when Farnsworth was able to get on the end of a great through ball by
Jessi Carver.
Jessi played a great 15 yard ball to beat the
Doane back line for an easy 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper for Farnsworth. The Raiders were done scoring in the first half, but Farnsworth had more for the second half.
Farnsworth was able to secure the first hat trick for the Raiders in 4 years in the
61st minute when Sarah
Homan played a great ball over the top of the stepping Tiger back line once again finding Farnsworth in a 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper where she calmly passed the ball into the back of the net.
The Raiders finished off the scoring in the
90th minute when
Homan played in a ball off a corner kick and Elise
Arant was able to head home the fifth goal of the night.Â
