Northwestern went on the road to Doane University and came out with a convincing 3-0 win. The Raiders were able to earn their first GPAC win and are now 1-1-0 in conference play.
The Raiders were able to get on the board in the 29th minute. NWC had earned three corners in a row and finally on the third corner,
Alex Schussman was able to bash home a ball off a flick from
Connor Gisby. It was Schussman's second goal of the season and Gisby's second assist of the season.
Northwestern was able to take advantage of Doane putting their heads down after the Schussman goal and
Connor Sams was able to cross the ball to the backside where
Morgan Newby was able to hit a half volley at a hard angle to beat Nishesh Yadav for the second goal. Newby's goal came 59 seconds after Schussman's.
The majority of the second half was very chippy and saw a lot of hard fouls and yellow cards but the Raiders were able to keep their cool and finish off the game strong. The final goal came on a great individual run from
Alex Schussman on the left side and he was able to slide the ball off to
Cole Cruse who was able to finish near post off a bouncing ball. It was Cruse's first goal of the season.Â
The Red Raiders host Mount Marty College Saturday for Homecoming at the NWC Soccer Complex at 7:15pm.Â
