Raiders Earn Road Win at Buena Vista University

The Red Raiders netted a 2-0 victory against the Beavers of Buena Vista University today in their final non-conference game of the season. The Raiders finished their tough non-conference schedule with a 4-3-2 record with a 3-1-0 record on the road ant a 1-2-1 record at home.

The Raiders dominated early in the first half as the Beavers sat in defensively and were able to repel the majority of the Northwestern attack. Morgan Newby was able to to behind the Beaver defense in the 26th minute and was attempting to play a ball back to the penalty kick spot for Tyler Limmer when a Buena Vista player handled the ball in the box, earning the Raiders a PK. Isaac Wong stepped up to take the kick and was able to bash the ball to his left past the diving keeper who guessed correctly. The goal was Wong's second of the season and first since the opening game against Viterbo University.

The Raiders kept up the domination in the first half and were able to find some room behind the BVU backline again, this time with Alex Schussman. Alex was able to dribble on the goal line and then played a ball back across the face of the goal to Tyler Limmer who was able to redirect the finish to put the Raiders up 2-0. This was Limmer's 4th goal of the year and Schussman's second assist on the year.

Northwestern would not be able to capitalize in a second half where the Raiders were buzzing the goal. The second half saw the Raiders put up 12 shots but many of the chances got blocked or went just wide or over. The Raiders finished the night with 19 shots, 12 on goal, to the Beavers 5 total shots, 3 of them on goal.

The Raiders start off GPAC play this Saturday as the welcome Midland University to the NWC Soccer Complex. Midland is receiving votes in the most current NAIA top 25 poll. Kickoff is slated for 7:15pm
