Red Raiders Finish Unbeaten At Bulldogs Bash

No. 13 Northwestern College won both matches this afternoon to finish a perfect 4-0 at the two-day Bulldogs Bash held on the campus of Concordia University in Seward, Neb. The Red Raiders defeated NCAA Division II Chadron State (Neb.) 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-14) and swept York (Neb.) 25-12, 25-14 and 25-18. Northwestern improves to 8-1 on the year.

A.J. Horstman put down a match-high 16 kills in leading Northwestern to a four-set win over Chadron State. 

The sophomore hit .625 on the rightside (16 kills, 1 error, 24 attempts) and was equally effective from the service line with five aces. Anna Kiel added 12 kills in 22 attempts, hitting over .400, and Makenzie Fink accounted for 11 kills and four digs, giving the Red Raiders three players with 10+ kills. 

After hiitting .296 in its first set loss, Northwestern improved its efficiency in its attack, hitting better than .400 over the final three sets and over .500 in two of the three. The Red Raiders also had the edge in ace serves (15-5) and blocks (5-4). 

Lacey Wacker put up 45 assists and directed the offense to a .430 efficiency. Karsyn Winterfeld served six aces and was one of three players with eight digs. 

Dowell Andi led Chadron State with 15 kills and Varela Gaby put down 10.

vs York...

Northwestern hit .488 in its final match, totaling 48 kills in 82 attacks against just eight errors. Kiel led a balanced attack with 11 kills, hitting for double figures in her eighth match this season. Lauryn Hilger had nine kills and eight digs and both Fink and Emily Van Ginkel put down five kills. Winterfeld led the backrow with nine digs and also added two aces. 

The Red Raiders have won five straight matches and will host Buena Vista on Wednesday night, Sept. 6, at 7:30pm.
